An awesome experience. The volunteer placement was definitely worthwhile.

The combination of surfing and volunteering is spot on. Every morning you’re up, out and enjoying the beaches that Cape Town has to offer and then in the afternoon you’re in the Masi township working directly with the community to create opportunities for the kids. You can see how much enjoyment they get out of it and there is no better feeling then driving into Masi and being swamped by a bunch of kids screaming your name and looking for a lift!

The level of exposure you get to the township community of Masi, working closely with the foundation team – Thomas, Clare, Tobela and Pila - to make a difference for the kids in the community is great. It’s definitely a hands on experience; you are in the thick of it every day, whether helping out with football and netball training or games, surfing or swimming with the kids or undertaking art and crafts activities!

Waking up for a surf every morning is definitely a great way to start the day. Beats going to the office that’s for sure! The variety of surf breaks on offer, combined with Tim’s surf tuition and knowledge and the support you get from the other surfers you met out here means its easy to get into surfing – irrespective of your level. It’s pretty easy to see why people get hooked on the lifestyle.
